Congress Approves Bill to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of case documents associated with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a near-unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a reversal by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to forestall the joint action involving a controversy that has plagued the president since his comeback to the White House.

Unanimous Approval in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, speeding up the process. Hours earlier, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have been patient long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have suffered long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to adopt it by consent. “Uncover the facts. Allow openness to prevail.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next goes to Donald Trump for his approval. Trump signaled on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though Trump has for an extended period downplayed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the scandal as a “Democrat hoax”, he expressed his backing for the House bill over the past few days, and stated he would give his assent if it comes to him.

Response

The Democratic party, along with victims and their supporters who were seated in a public section, applauded after the bill was enacted. Lone dissent came from a GOP representative, who stated he feared the measure would reveal personal information of people, those under scrutiny and others involved in the investigation.
