Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
